This pom-pom choker is so easy to make that it barely counts as a tutorial! The most difficult part is finding the materials, and the actual construction is a breeze (especially if you have some sewing supplies lying around already). If you have a fabric/craft store nearby, I highly suggest you go there and check out their fringe/trim selection; I spotted the super cute pom-pom tassel trim used in this project at my local fabric store, and a ½ yard of it was only a couple of dollars; with the added expense of buying the snaps, the whole thing cost less than $5.

If you don’t have a conveniently-located fabric store, I’ve linked some different options from Amazon and Etsy in the supply list. The downside is that they cost more since you can’t buy a fraction of a yard, but the upside is you’ll have more yardage of fringe for future craft projects! There are so many different styles of pom-pom and tassel fringe, so shop around! The only important thing is to make sure it’s on a ribbon that’s thick enough for you to attach your snaps.

What you’ll need to make a pom-pom choker:

Pom-pom fringe (See below, or check out these Etsy options!)

Sew-on snaps

Needle & thread

Steps

First, figure out how long your choker needs to be. You can be fancy and measure your neck with a cloth measuring tape, but the easiest thing is to just wrap the pom-pom trim around your neck. Use your finger to mark where the ribbon overlaps.

Add about an inch to the length you measured, then cut. We’ll be folding the edges over to prevent the choker from fraying.

Lay your pom-pom trim flat on your workspace, and thread your needle. If you don’t want to go buy new thread that matches the color of your pom-pom choker, don’t worry; this part won’t be super noticeable.

Fold over one end of your trim and stitch on one of the snap pieces (you should have two, an ‘innie’ and an ‘outie.’

Flip your choker over and fold the unfinished end backwards. Sew the remaining snap onto the smooth top side of the ribbon.
